Murray American Transportation

Operations Coordinator

Position Summary

Responsible for planning and maintain vessel crew and applicable staffing levels, coordinating vacation schedules, moving crew when applicable, maintaining relationship with RCX and working closely with human resources and payroll. Responsible for implementing safety procedures and ensuring that vessel and shore based personnel understand and are trained and in compliance with the requirements of these procedures. Maintain all applicable training records and assist with hourly employee file maintenance. Create training content, presentations, manuals, job aids and other materials to ensure that employees are effectively trained. Responsibilities also include training, development and mentoring of employees during their probationary period, active recruiting of new hourly candidates and primary participant in the hiring process. Communicate with supervisors and other managers about employee development and/or discipline.

Target Position Responsibilities

Service Technician

Position Summary

This position is responsible for maintaining all systems on the company’s towboats, safely & efficiently to minimize downtime and to provide repair service to all supporting equipment.

Provides the daily routine maintenance for the safe operation of company towboats. Performs the periodic maintenance at scheduled intervals on main propulsion engines and gearboxes, and service generators. Lubricates the components such as rudders, winches, chocks, and couplings.

Cooperates with corporate and governmental policies. Works with agencies such as annual Coast Guard Inspections, DER & DEP regulations, and HAZMAT training.

Provides arrangements for and carries out the weekly fueling of the towboats including taking on of lube oils and supplies as necessary, and the removal of waste products.

Drives to and from boat locations being responsible for the safe operating condition of company vehicles. Arranges transporting of company vehicles from boarding point to final destinations while on board the boats.

Practices good housekeeping in engine rooms, shop area, storeroom, and all related work areas.

Overhauls some system components to maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Assembles air and liquid conveying hoses.

Maintains support equipment such as gas and electric barge pumps, grease pumps, air pumps, life boats and davits, and the oil/water separator at W.E.L.

Maintains marine sanitation devices, commodes, sinks, showers, water pumps, and related plumbing. Repairs/replaces HVAC and refrigeration units.

Performs welding, burning and fabrication of repair parts when necessary. Replaces window and door glass. Assists divers when providing underwater repairs and/or inspections. Works with supervisors assisting with their duties and sometimes advises on certain situations.
